Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health said Friday the health systems have closed a transaction for a new business combination to create Advocate Health. Advocate Health will serve as a corporate entity for Advocate Aurora Health in Wisconsin and Illinois and Atrium Health, which is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The two regional health care systems had announced their planned joint operating agreement in May and had been awaiting regulatory approvals at the state and federal levels. The newly created health care organization will rank as the fifth-largest nonprofit integrated health system in the nation.
