Aurora this week honored a local teacher who is now a member of the Illinois State Board of Education. Laura Gonzalez, a bilingual teacher at Georgetown School in Indian Prairie School District 204 and an education advocate from Aurora, has been named to the state school board, the first active educator on the board. This week, she called the experience of being named to the board 'amazing' and 'humbling,' and said she is 'dumbfounded I was chosen for this opportunity.' 'I represent every single person in those school buildings … because every single person in those buildings is important,' she said.
