The 15th year of the Aurora Holiday Food Drive begins Tuesday amid as much need as ever at the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry. The perfect storm of post-pandemic inflation, supply chain and employment issues have swirled together to create a situation where pantry stock and resources are down, as demand grows. The pantry is receiving 10,000 pounds of food less a month from the Northern Illinois Food Bank while feeding twice the number of families it did a year ago. It is seeing 40 more families each week and paying as much as 60% to 70% more for things like eggs, and 40% more for diapers - what pantry officials call survival items.
